Small company with a clear conscience: Sustainable production and environmental responsibility at Mouka Tišnov

06/10/2025

What if “how” we do things mattered just as much as “how much”? How much we produce, how much we sell, how much we save. But also – how we go about it.

At Mouka Tišnov, we believe that even small manufacturers can follow the path of responsible, sustainable production. That environmental impact isn't a side issue – it's at the heart of sound business practice.
That’s why we’ve chosen a path that isn’t the easiest – but it’s the right one.

Solar-powered manufacturing: Two photovoltaic systems and almost zero energy waste

In September 2022, we launched our first photovoltaic power plantv with a capacity of 77.52 kWp, featuring 204 solar panels on the roof of our production facility. The first connection to the grid took place in January 2023.

The second phase followed in August 2024, adding 22.08 kWp with another 48 panels. Together, these systems now cover up to 36% of our total electricity consumption, which ranges between 210 and 220 MWh annually. So far, we've generated over 202 MWh of clean energy, preventing 78,861.5 kg of CO₂ emissions – the equivalent of planting 2,354 trees.

Nearly 100% of the electricity generated is used directly in our operations – powering machinery, heat pumps, ventilation, air conditioning, compressors, and other equipment. As a result, we send virtually no electricity back to the grid. With advanced software integration, we can monitor energy output in real time and optimize consumption accordingly.

Smart lighting for a better workplace: LED systems across the facility

Sustainability starts with the small things. We replaced outdated fluorescent lights in our preparation area with modern LED lighting that offers a warm color temperature. This not only reduces energy usage but also improves working conditions and reduces eye strain.

Studies show that improper lighting can lead to fatigue and other health issues.
We're gradually rolling out this energy-saving lighting solution across all departments – because every kilowatt-hour we save is just as valuable as the ones we generate.

Efficient heating and cooling: Heat pumps and heat recovery in our weaving hall

In 2017, we built a new weaving hall measuring 64 × 21 meters with a ceiling height of 4.5 meters. The facility maintains a comfortable climate year-round: during winter, it’s heated via a water-to-air heat pump (effective down to -5 °C), and in summer, the same system cools the air using a 6 °C water-cooled exchanger.

The setup includes a heat recovery system, significantly minimizing energy loss. The ventilation is also connected to our domestic water heating system, boosting overall efficiency. Everything is centrally controlled via PC, allowing us to schedule settings by season or work shifts.

Eco-conscious materials: Performance and sustainability go hand in hand

Sustainable thinking extends to our materials as well. We use bio-based Dyneema® – an advanced, high-performance yarn that offers extreme durability while being more environmentally friendly than traditional fibers.

This isn’t just a trend for us. We’re committed to showing that even in technical textile manufacturing – including the production of webbing, straps, and webbing straps – it’s possible to reduce environmental impact without compromising on quality or safety.

Giving back to nature: Supporting tree planting in Cholina

Our commitment to sustainability goes beyond our factory walls. We actively support tree planting through the “Sázíme stromy” initiative, particularly in the village of Cholina. This isn’t marketing – it’s a genuine effort to give back to nature.

Join us and visit our profile on Sázíme stromy – who knows, maybe you’ll plant a tree too.

Sustainability in everyday operations: waste sorting and upcycling

Our eco-conscious approach isn’t limited to high-tech solutions. We take pride in the everyday actions that form the foundation of a sustainable business.

All our workspaces have designated bins for sorted waste, and we encourage our team to treat waste with care and responsibility.

Offcuts and leftover materials that we can’t reuse in production are donated to sheltered workshops, schools, or craft groups. These materials get a second life – as educational tools, creative supplies, or components for community projects.

We’re a small company, but we know where we’re going

We may not be one of the biggest players in the market, but that only strengthens our commitment to each step we take toward a more sustainable future. We believe responsible manufacturing isn’t reserved for large corporations – all it takes is courage, innovation, and a willingness to change.

What about you? What would happen if every company started thinking about its environmental footprint?
At Mouka Tišnov, we do – every day. And we know it makes a difference.
